SOLUM’s Newton has been chosen as a finalist at the 2020 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)—one of the top three design awards in the United States. Hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the prestigious design competition recognizes products and services that encourage, inspire, and push the industry forward.
This year marks its 40th anniversary, making it the longest-running design awards program. Ever since it started honoring exceptional industrial design achievements, it has evolved to highlight interconnected areas such as strategy, branding, digital interaction, and many others.
The organization is an advocate for an in-depth and forward-thinking process, which is why entries that benefit users, clients, and society are selected. Each year, IDEA’s panel of judges reviews the entries across five criteria, which remained the same in the past 40 years—they believe consistency is what makes them unique.
To date, IDEA has awarded at least 2,800 past Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners, including Featured Finalists. Throughout the years, the winners have proven the tremendous significance of design in business, society, and beyond.
Below are previous IDEA winners—billion-dollar companies who positively influenced how millions of people live, work, and play:
• Apple’s original iPhone (Gold, 2008)
• Tesla’s Model S (Gold, 2013)
• Oculus Rift (Bronze, 2016)
Last 2017, SOLUM garnered our first win, receiving a Bronze award in the Commercial and Industrial Products category for the Smart Item Label Tag. This digital label is designed for easy attachment to individual products and can express price fluctuations in real-time.
Thousands of organizations across the globe submitted their entries, and SOLUM Newton was selected for our excellent design and innovative features.
